GEL PLATE BOTANICAL MONOPRINTING with Fenja T Ringl

The process of botanical mono-printing uses plant specimens as templates to create textural artworks on paper. In this three-hour workshop, learn how to prepare and ink up your plants and printing plates, and pass them through an etching press to produce a set of vibrant one-of-a-kind botanical prints. Experiment with colours, layering, stamps and stencils to further personalise your designs. You will go home with a set of finished A4 prints and the skills to continue creating and build upon for further exploration in monoprinting. Workshop fee includes materials. Suitable for beginners, ages 14+ . Wheelchair-friendly. $140

2-DAY WOODBLOCK WORKSHOP - An exploration of mark making led by Julian Laffan

27-28 JULY,  10-4pm both days

This hands-on weekend workshop will enable participants to develop their skills with woodcut, suitable  for beginner to experienced. Over 2 days you will explore a range of mark making including the use of a knife, gouges and other ways to transfer information to paper in the printing process. Participants will learn through doing and trying different ways to make marks on the surface.  Works of print artists will be examined to inform and help to identify the visual language you are interested in. You will complete at least two different woodblock prints and explore printing them to take home.  Students will see the process from drawing up the block, explorations into cutting and finally printing on a range of papers, focusing on hand printing to enable participants to continue working at home beyond the workshop. 10-4 each day, with a 30min lunch break. **All materials are included in the course fee. $370

10 JUNE - CREATING CYANOTYPES WITH DIGITAL NEGATIVES

Holiday Mon, 10 Jun 10-4pm

Explore the art of the historic Cyanotype print by combing today's digital technology with the 19th Century printing process using your own digital images/files. In this 6-hr workshop, Alt process practicioner and print media artist, Kim Sinclair, will guide your through the different chemical options, how to create digital negatives, explore paper choices and the process of printing with both 19th & 20th century cyanotype formulas. You will go home with a variety of one of a kind, handmade photographic cyanotype prints and the knowledge to continue on your historic photographic exploration in your own time. This workshop is suitable for beginners and ideal for those who have basic cyanotype skills and but would like a to upskill.  16+years.  Booking fee is for all workshop materials, including up to 3, 5x7, 1 8X10 digital negatives. $215

'SCRATCH THROUGH THE SURFACE' A weekend workshop led by SCRATCHBOARD artist Joan McKay

13/14 JULY - 10-3 both days

Participants will be tutored by award-winning scratchboard artist Joan McKay who has been practicing in watercolour painting for 30 years, and Scratchbord for 6 years.   Over 2 days,  this 10hr. workshop will provide participants with sufficient time to learn the mark making techniques, including stippling & cross hatching, to create a 5”x5”  image of your choice of bird on an artist-quality Ampersand Scratchbord.  You will learn various ways to scrape the Indian Ink surface to uncover the layer of white smooth clay beneath its surface with tools provided including an X-Acto-type blade and a tattoo needle.  Textures, shading, coloured ink and fine tuning will help to show form and contrast bringing your bird to life. $355

Join Master bookbinder, Joy Tonkin in this 1-day workshop where you'r

create a long stitch sketch journal using your own prints/artwork for the cover of your Sketch Journal.  The longstitch binding technique is one of the early styles of bindings. It showcases the stitching along the spine of the book and is a technique that allows the book to open flat and is often a non-adhesive style of binding.  

Tools and Materials:   a comprehensive tool kit list will be sent out with enrolment.  **Spares of all tools required will be available at the workshop.   All materials will be supplied for the journal and comprehensive notes will be supplied. Suitable for beginners and up. 15+ Wheelchair friendly. $155
